Which fee table applies to your ticket
Three things decide what you pay: when the ticket was bought, where you fly, and which airline's baggage policy applies. Tickets bought on or after April 10, 2026 use the current table; tickets bought on or before April 9, 2026 keep the older one. Flights wholly within Hawaii use the lower interisland table, not the North America one. Some itineraries follow another airline's bag rules: Hawaiian says travel that includes codeshare flights operated by its partner airlines is subject to different baggage rules, so check the confirmation before paying.
Hawaiian and Alaska: one shared bag policy
Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines now publish one combined baggage policy. The Hawaiian pages still work, but they show the same checked-bag tables and the same 22 × 14 × 9 inch carry-on limit as alaskaair.com. Atmos Rewards status, the Atmos Rewards Visa and Club 49 waivers appear in that shared table. Benefits specific to Hawaiian, such as Huakaʻi and the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard, are listed separately with their own limits. Alaska Airlines baggage fees
Saver fares and bags
Saver is not a "no carry-on" fare. The carry-on and checked allowance is the same as Main. The difference is boarding: Saver boards last (Group F), and overhead space is first-come, first-served. Keep anything essential in the personal item in case the carry-on has to be checked at the gate.
Packing tips
- Match your ticket purchase date to the right table before you budget: the current table for tickets bought on or after April 10, 2026, or the older table for tickets bought on or before April 9, 2026.
- Flying wholly within Hawaii? Use the interisland table, not the North America $45 and $55 fees.
- Use the free carry-on and personal item on Saver: you board in Group F and bins are first-come, first-served, but the carry-on is still free.
- Keep standard checked bags at or under 50 lb and 62 linear in to avoid overweight and oversize fees on top of the bag fee.
- Free bags from a card or elite status: only count on what Hawaiian's checked bag page or card FAQ lists for your itinerary.
At the airport (3 steps)
- Measure and use the sizer - Cabin: carry-on up to 22 × 14 × 9 in or 45 linear in (wheels and handles included). Checked: standard bags up to 50 lb and 62 linear in, unless your cabin or a waiver allows more.
- Fare and free bags - Saver matches Main for bag fees and free cabin bags. Atmos status waivers still apply on Saver. Group F is boarding order, not a cabin-bag charge.
- If you must check or pay - Know your table (North America or interisland, and your ticket date) before you reach the counter. Overweight and oversize fees stack. Paying at online check-in or a bag tag station avoids last-minute surprises at the counter.
Gotchas
- Fees stack: overweight and oversize fees are added on top of the base bag fee and on top of each other.
- Ticket purchase date controls the fee table: tickets bought on or after April 10, 2026 use the new table, and tickets bought on or before April 9, 2026 use the older table.
- For tickets bought on or after April 10, 2026, Hawaiian's table shows one price per bag, with no separate online price. Tickets bought before then use the older table, with its $35 pre-pay price.
- Interisland fees are separate, so don’t apply the North America $45 and $55 fees to flights wholly within Hawaii.
- Saver does not remove free carry-on or charge different checked rates than Main.
- Hawaiian still doesn't publish a size for the personal item.
- Huakaʻi: for tickets bought on or after April 10, 2026, Hawaiian's table shows the 1st and 2nd checked bags free up to 50 lb on flights wholly within Hawaii.
- Club 49: two free when the itinerary includes an Alaska city, or three free when traveling wholly within Alaska.
- Codeshares: policy may follow the operating carrier, so check your confirmation.
- The shared “Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines” policy doesn’t mean every Alaska waiver applies to every Hawaiian itinerary. Go by the waivers Hawaiian itself lists.
Avoid fees
How to avoid Hawaiian bag fees
- Travel with just the free carry-on and personal item. This works on Saver too.
- Keep checked bags at or under 50 lb and 62 linear inches. Overweight and oversize fees stack on top of the bag fee.
- Check for a waiver before paying: Atmos status, an eligible Atmos Rewards Visa, the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard, Huakaʻi (interisland), Club 49, First Class or active duty military.
- On a ticket bought before April 10, 2026, the older table's $35 pre-pay price only applies to payments made online between 24 and 4 hours before departure. when to pay airline bag fees
- On flights wholly within Hawaii, the lower interisland table applies ($30 and $40 for the first two bags), not the North America one.
