How We Verify Airline Bag Fees and Sizes
Bag rules are only useful if they are right. Here is exactly how we find, check and update every size and fee on BagRule, so you know where each number comes from.
Official airline pages only
Every figure on BagRule comes from the airline itself. We use three kinds of official source:
- Baggage pages, where airlines list personal item, carry-on and checked bag rules.
- Fee pages, where airlines list bag prices, overweight charges and oversize charges.
- Contracts of carriage, the legal terms that sometimes cover items like outerwear that the bag pages skip.
We do not use forums, news stories or other travel sites as a source for any number. We read traveler forums to learn how people phrase their questions, so our guides answer what you actually want to know, but never to take a figure.
Every page links to the official sources it relies on, so you can check any figure yourself in one click.
Archive copies
Now and then an airline page blocks automated reading or will not load. When that happens, we use a public archive copy of that same official airline page and link to it, labelled as an archive copy. We never swap in a different source.
When an airline does not publish a number
Some airlines do not post a fixed figure. They price bags by route and date, or they do not publish a personal item size at all. In those cases we write Not published and link to the airline's page so you can get the figure for your own trip.
We never estimate, average or copy another airline's number into the gap. A blank in the airline's rules stays a blank on our page, clearly marked.
How often we recheck
We recheck every airline page on a fixed monthly schedule. We also recheck right away when an airline announces a change to bag fees or sizes, since new fees often apply only to tickets bought on or after a certain date.
Each page shows its last verified date. That is the day we last opened the official sources linked on that page and confirmed the figures matched. It is not a promise that nothing has changed since, so always confirm with the airline before you fly.
How to report an error
If you think a figure is wrong, email info@bagrule.com. To help us fix it fast, please include:
- The address of the BagRule page.
- The figure you think is wrong.
- A link to the official airline page that shows the correct figure.
Every report is checked against the official airline page before anything changes.
Corrections log
When we correct a figure, we record it in a short public list on this page: the page, what changed and the date of the fix. Small wording edits are not listed. Changes to a size, a fee, a weight limit or a policy date always are.
You can email corrections to info@bagrule.com at any time, and we fix every error we confirm.
