Ryanair Cabin Bag Size (2026)
Ryanair cabin bag: free 40×30×20 cm under the seat on every fare. 10kg 55×40×20 cm only with Priority & 2 Cabin Bags — Plus is not that. Last verified 2026-09-17.
Quick answer
Ryanair’s free cabin bag on every fare is one small personal / small cabin bag, 40 × 30 × 20 cm, which must fit under the seat (Help Centre Bag Policy; DAC T&C 8.3.1). A second 10kg cabin bag, 55 × 40 × 20 cm, goes in the overhead locker only if the booking includes Priority & 2 Cabin Bags. That product is included on Regular, Flexi Plus, and Time Saver, and sold as an add-on. Plus includes the small bag plus a 20kg check-in bag, not the 10kg overhead trolley. Family Plus is small bag + hold bags, not Priority cabin. If the bag fails the sizer, Ryanair may refuse it or put it in the hold for a fee listed in the Table of Fees. Double-check sizes and fees on ryanair.com before you fly; they can change by route and date.

Converted inches (not published by Ryanair — do not present as official): 40×30×20 cm ≈ 15.7×11.8×7.9 in; 55×40×20 cm ≈ 21.7×15.7×7.9 in. Label converted. Prefer cm.
Wheels / handles: Ryanair publishes sizer fit, not a “wheels included” sentence. Packed bag must fit the sizer; Ryanair does not publish a separate “wheels and handles included” rule on the pages checked.

Plus ≠ Priority. Plus gives you the small under-seat bag plus a hold bag. Travelers often expect an overhead trolley and get a 20kg check-in bag instead.
Airport check-in: Table of Fees €/£55 per passenger per sector (Spain €/£30, Austria €/£40). Plus / Flexi “free airport check-in if booked before 14 August 2025” is date-gated. Confirm on the live Help Centre if your booking is later.
Operational hold: Even with Priority, DAC 8.3.2 / 6.8.2: large cabin bag may still go in the hold for operational reasons. Remove valuables. That is not the same as a sizer-fail fee.
Bags once purchased: not removable / not refundable (Help Centre refund article + T&C Article 10).
Gotchas
- Plus fare trap — small bag + 20kg check-in, not 10kg overhead. Family Plus is also hold, not Priority cabin.
- Basic = under-seat only. A 55 cm trolley on Basic is an unpaid cabin bag → sizer fail → refuse or hold fee.
- Axis order: Official Bag Policy / DAC 8.3.1 is 40 × 30 × 20 cm. Fare bundles print 40×20×30. Sizer is 42 × 20 × 30 cm. Same small bag — not two limits.
- Malta Air T&C 8.3.1 (opened today on the Malta Air tab) still says 40 × 20 × 25 cm. Do not use 40×20×25 on the Ryanair DAC / gb/en leaf. Mark VERIFY if the operated carrier is Malta Air / Lauda — out of scope unless the itinerary shows that code.
- Sizer is the law. Help Centre: if small bag or 10kg cabin bag does not fit the sizers, refused at gate or hold for a Regulations / Table of Fees charge. Leave bags at steps / gate trolley as directed.
- 10kg cabin ≠ 10kg check-in. Same weight name, different journey: overhead vs bag-drop.
- Small-bag kg unpublished — Ryanair does not publish a kg limit for the free small bag on the pages checked. Treat any “10kg personal item” claim with caution.
- Priority T&C €6 vs fees €/£12.49 — ship the Table of Fees band; VERIFY T&C min.
- Power banks / spare lithium must be on the person or in the under-seat bag, not in the overhead cabin bag (DAC 8.4.3).
- Duty-free bag is extra (8.3.5). It does not replace the small bag.
Traveler caution: Pack for the Stansted gate queue. One clear line on Plus (hold bag, not trolley). One clear line on the sizer. Then the table. Confirm your fare and the live Table of Fees before you fly.

FAQ
What is the Ryanair cabin bag size?
Ryanair publishes two cabin bags. Every fare includes one small personal bag 40 × 30 × 20 cm that must fit under the seat (Help Centre also writes that bag as 40×20×30 cm). The 10kg cabin bag is 55 × 40 × 20 cm, overhead, only with Priority & 2 Cabin Bags (or Regular / Flexi Plus / Time Saver). Small-bag sizers measure 42 × 20 × 30 cm. No kg limit for the small bag appears on the Bag Policy / DAC 8.3.1 pages checked 2026-09-17.
Does Ryanair allow a free cabin bag / carry-on?
A free under-seat small bag, yes. A free overhead trolley, no, unless your fare or add-on includes Priority & 2 Cabin Bags. Basic is small bag only.
Does Ryanair Plus include a cabin bag?
Plus includes one small cabin bag under the seat and one 20kg check-in bag. It does not include the 10kg overhead cabin bag. That comes with Priority / Regular / Flexi Plus / Time Saver. (Plus tickets bought before 11 December 2019 are a historical exception in the DAC T&Cs.)
Does Regular / Flexi Plus include the 10kg cabin bag?
Yes. Official fare-bundle copy: Regular includes Priority boarding and 2 cabin bags (small 40×20×30 under seat + 10kg 55×40×20 overhead). Flexi Plus includes Priority Boarding, a Small Cabin Bag and a 10kg Cabin Bag. Time Saver includes the same Priority & 2 Cabin Bags bundle.
What happens if my Ryanair bag doesn’t fit the sizer?
Official Help Centre: it will be refused at the boarding gate, or placed in the hold for a fee in the Regulations / Table of Fees. Leave it at the aircraft steps, gate bag trolley, or as agents direct. Live Table of Fees (2026-09-17): non-priority 10kg at the gate €/£46.00–€/£75.00; bringing an oversize bag over 55×40×20 cm to the gate €/£70.00–€/£75.00. Match the fee row to what you actually brought.
Can I add Priority if I booked Basic?
Yes, if still available: booking flow, My Bookings, or the app (DAC Regulations 3.2: Priority on the app up to 45 minutes before scheduled departure). If Priority & 2 Cabin Bags is sold out, the official option is a 10kg Check-in Bag at bag drop before security. That 10kg bag does not come into the cabin.
