Ryanair Cabin Bag Size (2026)

Ryanair’s free cabin bag on every fare is one small personal bag, also called a small cabin bag, 40 × 30 × 20 cm, which must fit under the seat, according to Ryanair’s Bag Policy and Conditions of Carriage (Article 8.3.1). A second 10kg cabin bag, 55 × 40 × 20 cm, goes in the overhead locker only if the booking includes Priority and 2 Cabin Bags. That product is included on Regular, Flexi Plus, and Time Saver, and sold as an add-on. Plus includes the small bag plus a 20kg check-in bag, not the 10kg overhead trolley. Family Plus is the small bag plus hold bags, not Priority cabin bags. If the bag fails the sizer, Ryanair may refuse it or put it in the hold for a fee listed in the Table of Fees. Cabin sizes

Converted inches (Ryanair does not publish inches; these are our conversions): 40×30×20 cm is about 15.7×11.8×7.9 in; 55×40×20 cm is about 21.7×15.7×7.9 in. Measure your bag in cm.

Wheels and handles: Ryanair publishes sizer fit, not a “wheels included” sentence. Packed bag must fit the sizer; Ryanair does not publish a separate “wheels and handles included” rule on the pages checked.

Priority add-on price

Conditions of Carriage compared with the fees table: Regulation 14 (Priority) still says Priority costs from €6 or £6 up to €36 or £36. The Table of Fees shows booking prices starting at €12.49 or £12.49. Older Conditions of Carriage minimum: this page uses the Table of Fees prices, not €6.

Plus is not Priority. Plus gives you the small under-seat bag plus a hold bag. Travelers often expect an overhead trolley and get a 20kg check-in bag instead.

Airport check-in: Table of Fees €55 or £55 per passenger per flight (Spain €30 or £30, Austria €40 or £40). On Plus and Flexi Plus, free airport check-in applies only if you booked before August 14, 2025. Check Ryanair’s Help Centre if you booked later.

Operational hold: Even with Priority, Conditions of Carriage Articles 8.3.2 and 6.8.2 say a large cabin bag may still go in the hold for operational reasons. Remove valuables. That is not the same as the fee for a bag that fails the sizer.

Bags once purchased: cannot be removed or refunded, according to Ryanair’s Help Centre refund article and Conditions of Carriage Article 10.

• Basic means under-seat only. A 55 cm trolley on Basic is an unpaid cabin bag, so it fails the sizer and is refused or charged a hold fee.

• If your flight is operated by Malta Air or Lauda, their terms may still show 40 × 20 × 25 cm. Use the figures on this page, taken from Ryanair’s UK site, only when Ryanair itself operates your flight. Confirm the code on your booking.

• Sizer is the law. Ryanair’s Help Centre: if the small bag or 10kg cabin bag does not fit the sizers, it is refused at the gate or put in the hold for a charge set in the Regulations and Table of Fees. Leave bags at the aircraft steps or the gate trolley as directed.

• A 10kg cabin bag is not a 10kg check-in bag. Same weight name, different journey: overhead locker versus bag drop.

• Small-bag kg not published; Ryanair does not publish a kg limit for the free small bag. Treat any “10kg personal item” claim with caution.

• The Priority rules in the Conditions of Carriage may still quote a lower €6 minimum, while the Table of Fees shows booking prices from €12.49 or £12.49. Go by the Table of Fees for what you will pay.

• Gate charges and charges for an oversized cabin bag going into the hold appear as price ranges in the Table of Fees (and the related Regulations). Use that table for your dates; there is no single flat gate price in £ on this page.

• Plus and Flexi Plus include free airport check-in only if you booked before August 14, 2025; check your fare rules.

• Deadlines for adding bags differ by channel (My Bookings, Priority in the app, or a 10kg check-in bag in the app). Check the deadline shown for the product you are adding.

• Power banks and spare lithium batteries must be on your person or in the under-seat bag, not in the overhead cabin bag (Conditions of Carriage, Article 8.4.3).

• Duty-free bag is extra (8.3.5). It does not replace the small bag.

Traveler caution: On Basic, pack for the under-seat sizer. Plus adds a hold bag, not a Priority trolley. Check your fare and the current Table of Fees on ryanair.com before you fly.

What is the Ryanair cabin bag size?
Ryanair publishes two cabin bags. Every fare includes one small personal bag 40 × 30 × 20 cm that must fit under the seat. Ryanair’s Help Centre also lists it as 40 × 20 × 30 cm, the same bag with the sides in a different order. The 10kg cabin bag is 55 × 40 × 20 cm, overhead, only with Priority and 2 Cabin Bags (or on Regular, Flexi Plus or Time Saver). Small-bag sizers measure 42 × 20 × 30 cm. Ryanair’s Bag Policy and Conditions of Carriage (Article 8.3.1) give no kg limit for the small bag.

Does Ryanair allow a free cabin bag or carry-on?
A free under-seat small bag, yes. A free overhead trolley, no, unless your fare or add-on includes Priority and 2 Cabin Bags. Basic is small bag only.

Does Ryanair Plus include a cabin bag?
Plus includes one small cabin bag under the seat and one 20kg check-in bag. It does not include the 10kg overhead cabin bag. That comes with Priority and 2 Cabin Bags, Regular, Flexi Plus or Time Saver. (Plus tickets bought before December 11, 2019 are an exception in Ryanair’s Conditions of Carriage.)

Do Regular and Flexi Plus include the 10kg cabin bag?
Yes. Official fare-bundle copy: Regular includes Priority boarding and 2 cabin bags (a small 40×20×30 bag under the seat and a 10kg 55×40×20 bag overhead). Flexi Plus includes Priority Boarding, a Small Cabin Bag and a 10kg Cabin Bag. Time Saver includes the same Priority and 2 Cabin Bags bundle.

What happens if my Ryanair bag doesn’t fit the sizer?
Ryanair’s Help Centre says it will be refused at the boarding gate, or placed in the hold for a fee set in Ryanair’s Regulations and Table of Fees. Leave it at the aircraft steps, gate bag trolley, or as agents direct. Ryanair’s Table of Fees: a non-priority 10kg bag at the gate costs €46.00 to €75.00 or £46.00 to £75.00; bringing an oversize bag over 55×40×20 cm to the gate costs €70.00 to €75.00 or £70.00 to £75.00. Match the fee row to what you actually brought.

Can I add Priority if I booked Basic?
Yes, if still available: in the booking flow, My Bookings, or the app (Ryanair’s Regulations 3.2 allow adding Priority in the app up to 45 minutes before scheduled departure). If Priority and 2 Cabin Bags is sold out, the official option is a 10kg Check-in Bag at bag drop before security. That 10kg bag does not come into the cabin.
