Virgin Atlantic Economy Light has no free hold bag; bag 1 starts at £80. Classic and Delight include one 23 kg bag; overweight costs £65.

Gotchas

  • On Light you pay for any hold bag, but the 10 kg cabin bag is still free (full details on our cabin bag page).

  • The optional fees page publishes £80 and £140 prices. Still use the calculator for a whole-trip estimate.

  • Extra bags cost the same at the airport as online (Virgin Atlantic help), unlike British Airways, where buying online is cheaper.

  • Overweight is a flat 65 British pounds, not charged per kilo.

  • Bags over 190 × 75 × 65 cm can’t be checked as baggage; send them through a freight forwarder. The oversized fee is paid only at the airport.

  • Economy routes with two bags and the Nigeria rule for bookings from April 15, 2026: check your booking date.

  • Key West limits Premium and Upper Class to 1 × 23 kg.

  • Flying Club Silver and Gold members add a bag even on Light.

  • Lap infant on Light: no free hold bag; you can buy one for 50 pounds or 75 US dollars (infant article). Adult Light Bag 1 is the published 80 pounds fee; check both prices when you book.

  • Partner flights can change piece and weight rules mid-itinerary.

  • No allowance pooling or combining was found; don’t assume Ryanair-style pooling.

  • Ignore fee amounts in an older Virgin Atlantic PDF; use the current optional fees and calculator figures.
